The Encyclopedia of Christian Civilization

George Thomas Kurian, Editor

Welcome

The Encyclopedia of Christian Civilization will be published in 2008. Arranged across three volumes in an A-Z format, it will be an essential reference tool for students, researchers, academics, ministers, and lay people interested in this field. This ground-breaking project will bring together specially commissioned entries written and edited by an international team of the world's best scholars and teachers from over 24 countries. It will provide:

  • Over 1,300 entries on all aspects of Christian civilization
  • clear, concise, readable, and attractive form
  • a schematic offering an unparalleled account of Christianity including: key theological ideas; global and regional history; society and Christianity; art; literature; music; education; law; ethics; politics, and scholarship.
  • easy use with sophisticated cross-referencing and search facilities, lexicon by subject area, extensive bibliography, and comprehensive index

Work on the project has been divided into 20 areas, each of which represents a major area of inquiry within Christianity.

This website is a central resource for managing this project. It includes information on designing and writing encyclopedia articles, style guides and sample entries. The interactive submission site will be available from 4th October 2007 for authors to use to submit their entries for editing. Main authors or entries will be provided with login details by 4th October 2007. All users of this system can view or search the encyclopedia headwords - this feature is especially useful for constructing the “cross reference” list at the end of your entry.

A downloadable list of entries is also available

Authors have access to their own full essays but only editors have access to all full essays. Please review the Submitting your Article page for further information on the editorial process, and specific instructions on uploading the various versions of your work.

Given the importance of this site to the project, please familiarize yourself with its workings.

If you have any questions about this site or the project in general, please see the contacts page for the appropriate e-mail address.
